Along with our independence, Raleigh revelers will have every opportunity to celebrate being in the land of plenty and tasty. In addition to Downtown restaurants, food vendors will line the street. The wine and beer tent will be at Hargett and Fayetteville streets.

For those who like to combine the pleasures of eating and competing there are a host of opportunities. Tasty 8’s Hot dog eating contests will be held at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Watermelon seed spitting contests will be held at 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. There are two age divisions; those 10 and younger in one division and everybody else in the other. Ice cream eating contests will be at 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. All of the calorie-cramming competitions will be held at the intersections of Fayetteville Street.

The Kids Zone with bounces/slides, face painting and every other fun things possible is at Martin Street between Fayetteville and Salisbury Street. Gouge Wrestling will hold events at 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at Martin and Fayetteville streets.
