Facility Update

A fire occurred on the roof of the Raleigh Convention Center on the evening of Monday, December 1. There were no events in the building and only a small number of staff members at the time. No one was injured.

First, we would like to thank all our First Responders with the Raleigh Fire Department for their superb work in controlling the fire and keeping everyone in the building safe. Their quick and decisive action limited the fire to the roof and prevented it from damaging the interior of the building.

Thank you also to the Raleigh Police department for their work to control the area and ensure the safety of our staff, Raleigh Fire, and the community during the incident.

RCC Staff is grateful for the collaboration of all City of Raleigh Departments to assess damage, determine when we can resume hosting scheduled events, and move forward.

Our staff has worked with organizers for upcoming events and has cleared all December events.

Convention Center staff will share information on progress and timelines when our experts have completed their inspections. Convention Center staff will then coordinate next steps with event organizers.

Since Monday, crews have made significant progress as a result of great collaboration between City departments, RCC staff, and contractors who are working hard to help us welcome guests back soon. This includes removing water and drying out the inside of the building, applying a temporary seal to the roof that is holding in the rain, and turning gas back on to resume operation of the boiler. Workers have also started work to put new dry wall in administrative areas where needed.

Red Hat Amphitheater’s The Rink and Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts events and performances continue as planned.

We are grateful to our First Responders, fellow City of Raleigh departments, the Raleigh community, and our community in the events and meetings industry for all your support of the Raleigh Convention Center.
